Cometic has the ability to customize any gasket to meet your specific application. Need to change the bore size and/or thickness of a gasket? Or do you need a complete gasket design and execution? The process starts with a simple phone call. After Cometic’s in-house Technical Sales Team understands your needs, they work directly with our design engineers to insure the gasket is drawn with state-of-the-art software and manufactured with the best materials possible with the most current and efficient manufacturing processes. If special tooling is required, we’ll provide a pre-production estimate for approval. Your gasket is then made and shipped. The lead-time on bore and thickness changes is just three days. A complete gasket design takes just two weeks.

MLS (Multi Layer Steel)

The Cometic MLS gasket is comprised of three to five layers of Stainless Steel. Cometic uses Stainless steel for increased strength, its ability to rebound and corrosion resistance. The outer layers of the gasket are embossed and coated on both sides with a Viton rubber material designed to meet the demands of a variety of harsh sealing environments, load conditions and surface finishes. The Viton coating is heat resistant to 250C or 482F.

The center or shim layer of the gasket is comprised of an uncoated Stainless Steel layer, which can be varied to accommodate multiple thickness requirements. The MLS gasket is ideal for any kind of head and block combination. By design the MLS gasket promotes an even torque load across the sealing surface allowing for measurable reduced bore distortion.

AFM (Aluminum Foam Material)

AFM is a chemically blown, compounded nitrile synthetic rubber bonded to an aluminum core with temperature resistance of over 250F. AFM material has an 85% recovery while maintaining strong torque retention. AFM does not require gasket sealers or re-tightening.

A perforated steel core with an elastomer surface is ideal for head gaskets allowing heat to be drawn evenly across the gasket surface while providing maximum sealing characteristics when exposed to coolants and oils.
